Fort Smith Historical Society

The Fort Smith Historical Society celebrated Black History Month with a special presentation on February 25. Held at the Clayton House, the meeting featured Mrs. Dorothy Johnson as the special guest speaker. Mrs. Johnson serves as President of the historic Phyllis Wheatly Club in Fort Smith. Her program, “Lifting as We Climb,” is a history of Black women’s service clubs in the Fort Smith area and the many ways such organizations have benefited the community.
